Quick N Easy

My husband and I are trying to finish the remnants of our grocery shopping.  You know, the odds and ends that will go bad soon, so you need to use them fast?

Here's what we came with last night:

Almost Manwich

Ingredients:
Extra lean ground beef (about a pounds)
Onion (diced)
Minced Garlic
About 3/4 a cup of BBQ sauce
About 1/8 of a cup of Worcestershire sauce

Steps
  1. Cook onions and garlic in Olive Oil until tender.
  2. Add hamburger, Worcestershire, and salt and pepper to taste.  Brown.
  3. Add BBQ sauce and let simmer for 15-20 minutes (until a little of the liquid cooks off)
We had it on the last hamburger buns from a pack.  It turned out pretty, good.  Almost the Manwich of our childhoods. :)

What other thrown together recipes do you make when you have odd remnant ingredients?

  1. One of the most common meals of my childhood was ground meat and rice. Quick cheap and easy, which means my this was a favorite of my moms. And it's exactly what it sounds like. Brown down onions and ground meat, seasoned to taste, server over rice. The problem with this meal is there is always to much for one adult and two kids, so there was always left over ground meat and rice. So mom would make "goulash" with the left overs. Brown a pack of smoked sausage with onions and bell pepper. Add left over ground meat. Once the ground meat is hot, add left over rice. Once rice is hot, make sure fire is on high, crack an egg over the mix, and stir till egg is cooked. I guess this would really be my moms take on fried rice!

  2. That sounds pretty interesting. I'll have to try that. We have some left over stuffing from stuffed cabbages that I think would be about the same thing. Thanks!

  3. If you throw some cream of mushroom soupd and mushrooms to the browned meat and rice, you have my famvorite "holy cow what should I make for dinner" meal.
